Zoom H5 with 3.5mm Mini Jack Microphone — XLR Adapter vs Built-In Mini-Jack Port

If you own the Zoom H5 and you want to record microphones with a Mini-Jack connector… is it better to use a Mini-Jack to XLR adapter like the Rode VXLR+ or can you just use the Mini-Jack port in the Microphone Capsule at the top?
