Italian Experimental Obscurities, Soundtracks and Library Music
#italian #soundtrack #librarymusic
Welcome to the second season of the Coffee Break Sessions! This is the second episode of the new season. Today, I'm playing some reissues of experimental, soundtrack and library music from Italy. Library music is a sort of generic soundtrack music with jazz, psych, funk, and ambient elements. It's not intended for mass commercial release and it has no causal audience because of its format and function. It's for films and TV so that the TV network can contact a music library label for a theme or tonal ambiance. Despite all that, library music takes weird and fantastic detours. There are garish drum machines, seedy guitars, synthesizers gone haywire, and fractious brass sections. Perhaps the lack of an audience to please gave composers the latitude to experiment. Nowadays there are some reissues from labels like Sonor Music Editions and Four Flies Records, many gems remain inaccessible to everyone except Milanese crate diggers and members of the most privileged file-sharing circles.
