making a quick easy glow tube

I have had several requests to show a simple tube project that someone can do without having a lot of complex special equipment. One of the first projects anyone wishing to make vacuum tubes undertakes is the basic glow tube. This is no more than an evacuated envelope with two electrodes sealed in. To make a glow tube the basic procedures of tube making are practiced. The only equipment needed is the basic glass working torch, a few hand tools, and a mechanical pump. While I did use the diamond saw to cut the tubing, it could have been done by scoring the tube and touching it with the torch.
