South Korea A-Z: Fortune Telling

Curious about your future but not even sure what you're going to watch next on Netflix? Well, you're not alone. Most people lack the ability to see into the future, tomorrow's weather forecast not included. And plenty of people wish they knew the outcomes of future events: job interviews, sporting events, first dates, marriages, divorce hearings... Imagine all the time, money, and frustration a person could save with a little assistance from a clairvoyant!

Well, on this episode of South Korea A-Z, I sit down with one of Seoul's many fortune tellers and get some answers about my future. Fortune telling is wildly popular in South Korea, whether it's for entertainment purposes or to evaluate the psychic chemistry between an engaged couple. On many busy streets you'll see booths and cafes with the words "사주" (Saju) and "타로" (Tarot) where inside, one can learn about their fate from a genuine fortune teller.

Since many Korean fortune tellers can speak another language, like English, Japanese, or Chinese, it's easy to find a place to uncover one's destiny. I went to a Saju cafe in the hip Seoul neighborhood of Hongdae and met Sabin, an English-speaking fortune teller. It was an unforgettable experience.
