The Philippines Open another New Military Base near South China Sea Island monitored by Beijing

South China Sea tensions erupted after the Philippines said Beijing sent a "militia to watch them" as they unveiled a "significant" refurbishment on its Thitu Island in the disputed region.

Anger between the two nations has dominated discussion in the waters, with China reportedly behind a significant downturn in fishing fortunes for nearby countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam.

This row has deepened in recent months after the US Navy attacked Beijing for its "unlawful" moves to stop its neighbors from fishing in some areas of the highly lucrative South China Sea. It has led to fears of conflict between China and island countries and the US, with many involved bulking up their military capabilities in the region.

But China reportedly sent militia to the region of Thitu Island to see what work the Philippines had been carrying out, despite pleas that the renovation project was "non-military."
