A retreaded tyre commences its life as a worn out tyre. There is a need for retreading when you find out that the tread is down to 2-3 mm or if it has been re-grooved earlier. In these cases, you need to take your tyre to an experienced technician who will check and inspect the tyre to see whether it is in a condition to get retreaded. If the expert finds it alright, then you can go for a retreading of your tyre. Retreading is a process through which we use worn out tyres. In this method, a worn casing of a tyre that has a good structural quality is taken off and put through a process in which it gets a completely renewed tread rubber. After that, the revamped tyre is taken forward for a curing process in which tread adheres to the casing and the tyre gets a new tread. Over the years, a lot of development has taken place in the tyre manufacturing industry across the world.

Retreading Process: Step 1, Initial Inspection
Trained Bandag specialists perform a visual, hands-on inspection from bead to bead.
Retreading Process: Step 2, Electrical Inspection
Electrical impulses detect nails, nail holes, tears, cuts and bead repairs, not always visible to the naked eye.
Retreading Process: Step 3, Shearography
Laser technology optically dissects the casing while a camera captures the images at varying vacuum pressures applied to the casing.
Retreading Process: Step 4, Buffing
After a casing passes the inspection processes, it is inflated to normal running size and the remaining worn tread is removed on a precision buffer.
Retreading Process: Step 5, Repair
The Bandag repair system can repair bead damage, crown injury, shoulder and sidewall injury, and sidewall splits.
Retreading Process: Step 6, Applying Cushion
A thin layer of cushion gum, made of uncured rubber, is placed on the casing.
Retreading Process: Step 7, Building
The Bandag builder automatically measures and applies the tread rubber.
Retreading Process: Step 8, Enveloping
After the tire has been built it is encased in a flexible rubber envelope, which causes uniform pressure to be applied to all tire surfaces.
Retreading Process: Step 9, Curing
The curing chamber causes the bonding layer in the tire to cure and permanently adhere the new tread to the prepared casing.
Retreading Process: Step 10, Final Inspection
The finished product then receives a final inspection, quality, craftsmanship and appearance are all factors considered by a skilled operator.
