Let Go of Impulsivity

Let go of impulsivity. There are some mental health diagnoses that show impulsivity as a symptom of a disorder. Being impulsive, like taking off on an adventure or taking a leap of faith is okay, once in a while – as long as it is healthy for you and puts no one in harm’s way or endangers you. But, when impulsivity wreaks havoc on your finances because you impulsively bought a new wardrobe, or perhaps impulsive acts destroyed one’s trust in you – that is when you need to work on letting go on the urge for impulsivity. Impulsive acts can have a negative impact on your health, your finances, relationships and career. Once in a while you know when something is right instantly. But when impulsiveness is a habit it can get you into trouble. Think things through, do your research, pray for wisdom.

Jane Austen wrote in her novel Pride and Prejudice, “Every impulse of feeling should be guided by reason; and, in my opinion, exertion should always be in proportion to what is required.”

Just because you have an impulse, doesn’t make it wrong immediately, but when you use reason to guide you and weigh the decision with wisdom and respect, you’ll make better decisions. Let go of being impulsive!
