Meet China’s first relict gull hatchlings

Three relict gull eggs were rescued by volunteers from Lake Hongjiannao, Shaanxi Province in May. The eggs were transferred to a laboratory and incubated there. Last month, three chicks hatched in Laoting County, north China’s Hebei Province. Rescuers will train the gulls to survive in the wild, and set them free after tagging them. These birds are Class-I protected animals in China, with a population of around 13,000 worldwide.
