Why give gifts? A poem reading by UW professor Anthony Gill

Anthony Gill, professor of political science at the University of Washington wrote a poem based on a dilemma many of us have - to gift, or not to gift when the present might not be wanted?

Is an ugly sweater, a ceramic statue or vase inevitably waste?

Not necessarily, says Anthony Gill, professor of political science at the University of Washington. Because it’s not just about the gift, however unwanted it is. He says it's the process of giving, and graciously receiving, that is a fundamental part of healthy economies and societies, displaying sacrifice, symbolic goodwill, and instilling trust and a 'pay it forward' mentality.
