Sony TC 377 (& Sony TC 366) reel to reel (How to Renovate and Repair)

This video shows how to restore your Sony TC 377 reel to reel tape recorder. It is a step by step demonstration of how I did it and should help anyone wanting to repair their machine.

The video shows how to disassemble the unit, restore the mechanics, replace the rubber belts, oil and grease the unit, replace the brake pads and how to reassemble it and test, bringing it back to working order.

The video does not cover electronic repair. After the TC 377 is working mechanically, these issues can be diagnosed and repaired. My machine worked well and did not need electronic component replacement. Generally, the Sony TC 377 is bullet proof and there's a good chance it will work OK. Reel to reels are often discarded or stored in the loft/attic due to belts stretching and grease thickening which stops them operating properly.

I suggest you watch the entire video to understand its scope. If you decide to restore one, you could use this video as a guide and follow along as the project unfolds.

My approach is to restore one section at a time, working with manageable sized areas and then moving on the next. I do not disassemble everything at once as this often results in losing control of the project. The sectional approach gives a sense of accomplishment as each part is completed. Good luck.
