Eight Feet Tall Skeleten Found Near Lovelock Cave

The evidence Randall presents here comes from two separate but geographically connected discoveries in the Great Basin of North America, and from the oral traditions of the tribes who have lived in that region since before recorded history.

The first discovery is the Spirit Cave mummy - a mummified human found by a husband and wife archaeological team in 1940 and radiocarbon dated in 1997 to almost 11,000 years old, placing the individual at the end of the last Ice Age. The modern tribes of the region have their own account of that era. Their ancestral stories describe a time when their people lived on the shores of a great lake - consistent with the known existence of Lake Lahontan, a vast Ice Age body of water that once covered much of present-day Nevada before disappearing as the glaciers retreated.

Nearby is Lovelock Cave, where early twentieth century excavations uncovered approximately 60 mummies. In 1912, a rancher excavating close to the same area found a skeleton approaching eight feet in height. Footwear recovered from the site suggested a wearer in the range of seven feet six inches tall.

What Randall finds most compelling is that the tribal traditions do not simply acknowledge the existence of giant beings in the region - they describe an active conflict with them. According to the ancestral memories of the local tribes, their forebears fought a war with giants, and the final confrontation between the two groups took place at or near Lovelock Cave. The archaeology and the oral history are pointing to the same location.
