The event, held in El Valle, drew dozens of spectators as cardboard figures symbolising “traitors” were burned in a display blending folk art with political protest. Participants described the act as a rejection of imperialism and injustice, while also expressing support for Iran and Palestine. Similar scenes played out in Mexico City. The decades-old tradition symbolises the destruction of evil, rooted in the biblical story of Judas’ betrayal of Jesus.
