First New Traffic Lanes Open in the Fortify Work Zone
This summer, drivers in Raleigh will notice a welcome change in the Fortify work zone as the contractor has started opening the first new lanes of the project to traffic.
On both the east and westbound travel lanes on I-40, traffic began transitioning from the old lanes to the new lanes to the east and west of the Gorman Street exit.
The new lanes extend for a little over two miles in each direction, and are the first sections of the I-40 portion of the Fortify project that have been completely rebuilt. Similar shifts will continue through the summer as additional sections are completed.
