GROWING YOUR FIRST GARDEN | Budget Tips + Planning

Planting your most consumed and favorite fruits and veggies at home is a healthy way to save money and enjoy fresh produce! How much money can it save you? It depends on the cost involved in growing the crops, the types and amounts of the things you decide to grow, and the yields you get from those crops. You want to limit the costs while maximizing your yield.

It's also rewarding in other ways, such as food safety and security. You know precisely what you are eating because you GREW it.

The most important tips I can give you based on my experience:

🌱 Don't let the vocabulary scare you from starting. I got so intimidated when reading about soil pH values and levels I almost didn't start. But here's the thing, you don't have to be an expert on what you don't understand. Start with the knowledge you have and learn more as you go.

🌱 Know what hardiness zone you are in. ALMANAC.COM (Old Farmer's Almanac) has been the BEST place for information for starting and planning a garden that I have found.

🌱 Decide where you want to plant and observe. How much sun do you get?

🌱 Only plan to plant things you KNOW you will love and eat.

🌱 Once you know where you want your garden, what zone you are in, and what things you want to grow, it's time to organize a system to take action.

You don't need a huge space to start growing things today. Start with what you have. I planted tomatoes and small melons in containers on my deck for over two years.
