Aimless Railfanning, September of 2014 Part 1
The Month of Septmeber introduced many trips to me, including South Jersey, and back to the Selkirk area. We also see Steam, and the usual suspects and places. Sit back, and Enjoy.
We start off September at NS CP Sully, like normal. NS 20K is cloating through the interlocking with typical power, but with a different view on the signals.
NS SD70ACe #1098
NS C40-9 #8812
We then find ourselves at the Black River and Western Railroad, at Ringoes Station in Ringoes New Jersey as we watch ALCO 2-8-0 #60 bring the morning Passenger train into the staton very slowly on a blue Sunny Day. The consist includes 4 cars, the only 4 that we had at the time, which are the 2 Canadians (491/494), The Bishop (322) and the Combine (297).
Casually we drag ourselves over to CSX CP MEAD. We watch as a K042 starts from a stop, with 3 GE's from BNSF all in different colors. This was, and still is nothing of the abnormal routine, as BNSF power still makes its way to Philly via the oil trains that run constantly over the railroad.
BNSF C44-9W #5489
BNSF C44-9W #621 (Warbonnet)
BNSF C44-9W #993
Classes Began in September, and it just so happened that the way I took home from class, followed the NS Lehigh Line from 3 Bridges (LEHL MP48.5) to CP Sully in Hillsborough. The first of Many Morning Westbounds shot in the 3 bridges area after school in the morning, was NS 15J. Today, It had a single GEVO for power. He went into the siding to await an eastbound, of which I did not shoot.
NS ES40DC #7598
NJT's North Jersey Coastline (NJCL) is not normally your everyday buffed line. However while visiting some friends, we ended up in Long Branch, and noticed that the next train to Bay Head on the shuttle was equipped with NJT GP40PH-2B #4219, which used to be NJT GP40PH-2A #4148, before getting into an accident and thus being rebuilt. We pace them down the Lower Diesel-Only portion of the line, and then see a shot of them sitting in Long Branch.
In the following days, on the way home from school again, I stopped at CP Sully, to see a Westbound. What I didnt know, was that it was a geometry train, heading back to Allentown after scanning the RR that morning.
NS SD70M-2 #2745
NS SD40-2 #3561
NS Research Car #38
NS Research Car #36
Later that evening I was back out on the rails, where we see NS 33K knock down the signal at SULLY with some nice power. Take notice how only the Dash9 and the GP38 are online, and the UP is DIT. They are seen passing the NS H76, local from Allentown, which is on the siding.
NS C44-9W #9192
UP AC44CWCTE #5626
NS GP38-3 #5802 (GP40-2 Carbody)
Back out In 3 Bridges, we watch at Rockafella Mills Road Grade crossing, NS 21M heading west with 3 of NS's finest in the power fleet.
NS C44-9W #9818
NS C44-9W #9021
NS C44-9W #9153
They met NS 22V at the CP 51 Signal, which opens a siding to CP 53. NS 22V floats by eastbound next.
NS C44-9W #9947
NS C44-9w #9468
Back at 3 Bridges, and the next eastbound of the morning, is NS 212. The Atlanta Georgia to Croxton New Jersey High Priority Intermodal of the morning. Some color is mixed into the lashup this morning, as they knock down the 48 signal.
NS C44-9W #9065
UP SD70AC3 #8879
NS C44-9w #9359
The last of the NS eastbound rush was lite power NS 294. NS 294 runs to Bethelehem as the RoadRailer, and then becomes lite power, and brings the engines to Croxton. The power then gets turned and sent back west. This power just so happened to take 15J the following day, which I do not have a video of, but remember vividly. The train glides by the 48 signal, as it was showing red, and due to the number plate, indicates a restricting. The train has to take the signal to the next signal at restricted speed.
NS C44-9W #9484
NS C40-8W #8363
Stay tuned for part 2, where we head ot the NY State area, and even get a couple shots of South Jersey Camden-Deepwater local Conrail CA-11.
