Building Footings and Frame for a Composite Deck –Trex Transcend Decking

After demolishing the small cedar entrance deck to our new 40-year-old home, we had a decision to make: leave the concrete 3’ x 4’ porch and steps as is, or build a new, larger deck. Well, it didn’t take long to make our decision. The original concrete porch was dangerously small, and by removing the old deck, we no longer had a place to sit and admire the amazing view of the Olympic Mountains. It was clear, we needed a much larger, ideally low-maintenance deck. This is when I began researching manufacturers of low maintenance composite decking. What I learned is that there are many competing manufacturers of composite decking, and whether they are recommended by a building supply company depends on individual experiences and marketing connections. Having this awareness, I pretty much decided not to choose Trex. Then I found Christopher Blue, a local Sequim contractor who was one of three contractors recommended by Thomas Building Supply for building composite decks. I reached out to Chris and he was the first to respond and to set a date for an estimate. Chris has years of installing decks, including the older, not so durable Trex along with the latest technology Trex Decking, such as Select and our ultimate choice, Transcend. Chris convinced us that Trex was the decking we should install. So far, I am 100% confident that Chris will build us a composite deck that will meet and exceed our highest expectations!
