"IS IT THE END OF THE WORLD (PLANET EARTH) OR END OF THE AGE (AION)"

The idea that the phrase, "The End of the World" in Mt.24:3 (KJV) is dealing with the End of Time/Earth/Universe, is a mistake made by most Bible Scholars experts and Theologians, simply because the English term, "World" is ambiguous in that text, and fails to convey the actual meaning of the original Greek term Jesus employed there.

The phrase in English, "The End of the Eorld" is found 5 times in the NT (KJV) and is identical in all 5 places. The original Greek term rendered, "World" in all 5 occurrences is "Aion" which means an Age. or of period of time; now had the end of Time/Earth/universe been under discussion, the phrase should have been, "The End of the Kosmos" (universe -Planet); or perhaps, "the End of Kairos" (time); or even, "the End of the Ge" (Earth).

1 Cor 10:11"..and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the Ends of the World (aion) ARE come".

Heb 9:26"...suffered since the foundation of the world (kosmos): but NOW once in the end of the world (aion) hath he appeared to put away sin by the Sacrifice of Himself".

The unavoidable fact here is that the phrase "The End of the World" in 1 Cor.10:11,Heb.9:26, in which the writer(s) identifies as being in present tense, NOW, (2000 years ago) is the identical phrase found in Mt.24:3, proving that the subject matter of Mt.24 is dealing solely with the impending destruction of Jerusalem and Judaism, and Not the End of the Physical Earth.

"END OF THE WORLD_OR_AGE"??
A BIBLICAL EXPOSITION OF MATHEW 24:1-3.
Matthew 24, commonly known as the Olivet discourse, is by far the most full and explicit of our Lord's prophetic utterances regarding His second coming. Verse 3 is the most important verse in this whole chapter.

If you don't understand their Question, you will never understand JESUS' Answer. We must be sure we understand the questions.
 
Let's see if we can understand the disciples' questions; then we will be able to understand Jesus' answer. Correctly understanding this question could cause a paradigm shift in the eschatology of many.

Let me briefly remind you of what we saw last time. Throughout Matthew's Gospel Jesus continually warned the Jews of their coming judgment because of their apostasy.

👉Matt 21:43 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it."

👉Matt 22:7 "But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city."

Jesus continues to warn them of a coming judgment because of their rejection of the Messiah. It is clear that the reference here is to JERUSALEM's Destruction in AD 70.

Notice that they also associated the destruction of the Temple with the END of the Age.

Now again, the "THESE THINGS"-- The Destruction of the Temple, are connected with the END of the Age. Some translations render this "World." That is very confusing. The Greek word used here is aeon which means, "AGE." It is not the Greek word "kosmos" or "oikoumene," which means the World and its inhabitants. It is not talking about the END of the PHYSICAL WORLD; the word aeon means age, era, or a period of time. The expression "End of the Age" refers to "the End of the Jewish age."

The Disciples knew that the fall of the Temple and the destruction of the city meant the END of the OLD COVENANT AGE and the inauguration of a NEW AGE -NEW COVENANT!

The Jews of the 1st Century clearly understood what "the day of the Lord" meant, because they read it many times in the Old Testament. Such language was used many times in the past whenever God would overthrow and destroy a single nation at a specific time.

Eze.30:3-4 - fulfilled Egypt 480 BC
Amos 5:18-20 - fulfilled Israel 722 BC
Zeph.1:7,14-16 - fulfilled Jerusalem 586 BC
Mal.4:5 - fulfilled 27 AD (notice Mat.11:13-14)
Joel 2:1,11,31 - fulfilled 30 AD (compare Joel 2:28 with Acts 2:16-17).
READ: Isa.2:12, Jer.46:10, Eze.13:5, Joel 1:15; 3:14, Oba.1:15, and Zeph.2:2-3, Zech.14:1.

To the Disciples of Christ and the Jewish people,the Destruction of the Temple would mean the Parousia of the Lord and the END of the Age. The answer that Jesus gives is to them, not some future generation, and it all deals with the fall of Jerusalem.

What are we to be doing in this Age of the New Covenant in which we live? We are to be calling Men and Women to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that they may have the Gift of Eternal Life as found in Acts 2:38, 4:12, 10:43-48.
