Driving in the UK
In this video I describe what it is like to drive in the UK.
The UK has 35 Million vehicles which is approximately 1 vehicle to every 2 people.
The UK adopts the Right Hand Drive Configuration, The controls are moved over to the right hand seat.
Although we are not the only country to use the Right Hand Drive, we slightly unique. we still have our indicator stalk on the left, which is the same as the rest of europe. this is different to other RHD countries which have their Indicator stalk on the right.
We allow Left Hand Drive (LHD) cars from europe under the terms of the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (UNECE)
We are the only country in the world with both mph (miles per hour) and Km/h (Kilometres per hour) on our speedometers.
the roads in the UK come in multiple varieties
-Minor Roads (B, C, D, & Unclassified) make up 87% of roads
-Major Roads (A) make up 12% of roads
-Motorways (M) make up 1% of roads
Together Motorways and A roads account for 65% of all road traffic
the UK has over 7500 miles of Trunk Road which is managed by the individual constituent countries
-The Highways Agency (England)
-Transport Scotland (Scotland)
-SWTRA & NMWTRA (Wales)
-Road Service (Northern Ireland)
The Speed limits vary based on the road type and the type of vehicle being driven.
