Defeating them seems almost impossible. However, their weakness might have been hidden in plain sight all along—fire. There are several hints supporting this theory. In Chapter 1146, none of the Straw Hat crew's normal attacks could harm the Gorosei, but Usopp's fiery attack had an effect. Similarly, during the Reverie flashback, when Sabo tried to protect Cobra, he managed to hold off both the Gorosei and Imu, and Sabo himself uses a fire-based Devil Fruit. This could be why Imu and the Gorosei are interested in controlling the "Mother Flame," possibly fearing fire's power. Ironically, the Gorosei and Imu resemble demonic beings, and in many mythologies, fire is seen as a force that purifies evil.
