A Honeybee Swarm

It’s #NationalPollinatorWeek, and on a recent day in the field monitoring eagle chicks, NJDEP Fish & Wildlife staff were able to witness some pollinators in action – a honeybee swarm! As NJDEP Fish & Wildlife Assistant Commissioner Dave Golden states, bees swarm when searching for a new home.

🐝 Swarming usually happens in late spring and early summer.
🐝 Swarms are generally non-aggressive as they search for a new hive.
🐝 A swarm can contain thousands of bees, including a queen.
🐝 Half of the worker bees that stay at the original hive will create a new colony with a new queen.
