So, Apple killed the HomePod. The OG, original HomePod though, not the HomePod mini. I love the Apple HomePod. You may have heard me say this in the past, but I wanted to reiterate that just in case you didn’t…and I’m not talking about the HomePod mini, although as you may have seen in my recent HomePod mini review, I do like that product as well…but the original, full-sized HomePod is my favorite smart speaker of all time. The work that went into creating it was then used to creating AirPods, AirPods Pro, the incredible AirPods Max, the speakers in the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro, and of course, the HomePod mini…and that’s why I was so disappointed when Apple announced late last week that they were discontinuing it in order to focus on the HomePod mini.

So, where do we go from here? Should you just ignore the OG HomePod, or does it make sense to pick one up on clearance if you see them at your local Best Buy or online - in fact, I’ll leave a link in the description to retailers offering the HomePod? Well, as you saw in the title of this video…Apple Killed the HomePod…but not really. Let me explain.

The official word from Apple discontinues HomePod:

"HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod mini. We are discontinuing the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care."
