서울 명동성당 옆 가톨릭회관에서 가톨릭영성심리상담소장 홍성남 신부님을 뵈었습니다. 조연티브이휴심정의 단골손님인 홍신부님께서 이번에 귀한 책을 내셨습니다.
아마 종교의 허상을 홍신부님처럼 예리하게 꼬집어 비판하는 성직자는 우리나라뿐 아니라 전세계적으로도 귀하디 귀합니다. 비판을 위한 비판이 아니라 그의 비판을 통해 거짓의 종교를 털어내면, 진실한 종교 본연의 진면목과 만나게 됩니다.
종교에 대한 신부님의 사이다 발언들을 듣다보면, 우리들이 얼머나 종교의 허상을 종교라는 이름으로 쫓고 있었는지 깨닫게 됩니다.

조현은 33년 동안 신문사 기자로 일했습니다.
한겨레신문에서 사회부와 정치부를 거쳐 문화부에서 종교전문기자로 활동했습니다.
특히 23년간 종교전문기자로서 일반인들이 쉽게 접근하기 어려운 깊은 산사의 수행승들 및 수도자들과 남다른 친분을 유지하면서 깊이 취재해 온 기자로서 독보적인 입지를 구축했습니다.
그는 불교, 유교, 천주교, 개신교, 민족 종교, 인문학 등 한국의 영성가들과 정신적 교류와 대화를 했습니다. 한국뿐 아니라 달라이 라마, 틱낫한, 우판디타, 포티락, 토마스 키팅 등 세계적인 명상가들을 인터뷰했습니다.
그가 수많은 수행들을 직접 체험한 뒤 쓴 '나를 찾아 떠나는 여행'은 2001년 한국 누리꾼들이 뽑은 인문학 책 1위로 선정됐습니다. 숨겨진 고승들의 삶을 추적한 ‘은둔’은 불교출판상 및 올해의불서상을, '하늘이 감춘 땅'은 불교언론상을 수상했습니다. 또 기독교 영성가들을 다룬 책 '울림'은 국내 대표 개신교 신학대학 4곳이 선정한 '100대 교양도서'에 선정됐습니다. ‘혼자는 외롭고 함께는 괴로운 이들을 위한 마을공동체 탐사기’인 ‘우린 다르게 살기로 했다는 중앙일보가 올해의 인문학 책에 선정했습니다.
그는 한국출판인회의에서 한국을 대표하는 작가 중 한 명으로 선정되기도 했습니다.
2024년엔 '한국 인문가치 대상'을 수상했습니다.
조현은 심리치유재단인 행복공장에서 오랜 시간 은둔고립청년들과 치매 암환자 돌봄가족들, 6호처분 청소년들을 대상으로 명상을 지도했습니다. 그는 또한 ‘나를 찾는 사람들(나찾사) 치유 프로그램’을 이끌고 있습니다.

Cho Hyun TV's "@koreainsight" consists of a lecture by journalist Cho Hyun and a talk with a Korean spiritualist. Cho Hyun worked as a daily newspaper reporter in Seoul for 33 years. Cho Hyun, a reporter for the Hankyoreh newspaper, Korea's leading progressive media, has been a religious journalist for 23 years.
Cho hyun has been specializing in religion and humanities for the longest time in Korea. In particular, he has established an unrivaled position as a reporter who has deeply covered them while maintaining a unique friendship with the monks of the mountain, which has the world's oldest capital tradition.
He engaged in spiritual exchanges and talks with Korean spiritualists, including Buddhism, Confucianism, Catholicism, Protestantism, ethnic religion and humanities. He interviewed not only Korean spiritualists but also world-renowned spiritualists such as the Dalai Lama, Tikhan, Upandita, Potirak, and Thomas Keating.
"Travel to Find Me," which he wrote after performing 31 Korean practices in 2001, was selected as the number one humanities book selected by Korean Internet users that year. His book "Hidden" won the Best Buddhist Publishing Award, and "Land of Heaven" won the Buddhist Press Award. In addition, the book "Woolim," about Christian spiritualists, was selected as the "100 Must-Reading" by four leading Protestant theological universities in Korea. We decided to live differently about the community was selected as the humanities book of the year by the JoongAng Ilbo, a major Korean newspaper. He was also selected as one of Korea's leading authors by the Korean Publishers Conference.
He taught meditation for a long time at the Hongcheon Training Center, a psychological healing foundation. He is also leading the "Healing Trip to Find Me with Reporter Cho Hyun" program sponsored by the Daewoo Foundation, Korea's leading humanities foundation.
