Rena's Promise Part 1a - Holocaust Survivor 1716 - First Transport to Auschwitz

In response to Bishop Williams' recent denial of the Holocaust we are posting the personal recollections of Rena Kornreich Gelissen, the 716th woman in Auschwitz, who survived three years and 41 days in the camps, and is the author of the renowned memoir: Rena's Promise: Two Sisters in Auschwitz (Published by Beacon Press, 1995).

Rena loved Pope John Paul because he was Polish and because she loved her country, despite the anti-semitism she faced there. To hear that the current Pope would reinstate a formerly excommunicated Holocaust denier is unthinkable. Rena may not be able to stand up and speak for herself anymore, but her memory and her record can. We have her story. She saw children (200 fro a French orphanage) go to the gas chambers. She witnessed the horrors for longer than any other Jewish survivor has written or spoken about. It is time the world paid attention, or they will start denying Rwanda and Darfur, as well.
