This DIY video shows how to adjust the snowblower skid shoes. Skid shoes raise the shave plate about a quarter inch to keep the plate from wearing out quickly.

1. To adjust the skid shoes accurately, lay down a sheet of cardboard or flattened shipping box that’s almost as wide as the shave plate.
2. Place the cardboard so that it’s under the shave plate but not under the skid shoes.
3. Loosen the skid shoe bolts on both sides so the shoes drop down flat on the ground.
4. Tighten the skid shoe bolts.
Skid shoes can wear down quickly, so keep the cardboard handy and check skid shoe position often. Adjust when needed, to keep from wearing out the shave plate.
