Movsar Evloev (13-0) is arguably the most underrated 145 lb. fighter in the UFC’s Featherweight Division. The 26-year-old has beaten all three foes he’s faced in the octagon, showing off a true all-around skill set that allowed him to dominate in the cage thus far. With a lot of eyes on him courtesy of a gigantic UFC 257 card, a win on Saturday, 1/23, makes Movsar’s case to be ranked even stronger.

Evloev was born in 1996 in Sunzha, Ingushetia, a Republic of Russia in the mountainous North Caucasus region of East Europe. Many Russian fighters currently occupying the MMA scene emerge from the North Caucasus Republics of Chechnya and Dagestan. However, Movsar heads a smaller clan of fighters hailing from the smaller sphere of Ingushetia, west of the two larger outlets now extremely well known to MMA fans.

Before his MMA debut at age 20 in 2014, Evloev captured titles in many martial arts, both ancient and modern. He’s a Russian champion of Pankration, the oldest form of no-rules fighting emanating from the Olympics in ancient Greece. Back in the day, anything and everything was legal in Pankration; now the sport strongly resembles MMA with the biggest difference being only open palm strikes are allowed. Additionally, Movsar won medals in freestyle wrestling and amateur MMA before making the decision to go pro.

The Russian’s bread is more buttery on the mat, combining acrobatic throws and takedowns with smothering grappling and wrestling. His striking seemingly improves every time he fights, quickly approaching the level of his ground game. Presently, he stays true to his roots training at Fight Club Nart in his hometown. However, he also improves his skills at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand, training alongside the world’s best in all facets of martial arts.

Before the UFC, Movsar competed at Bantamweight in Russia’s largest promotion, M-1 Global. He won the championship at 135 lbs. and defended the strap three times before venturing stateside. In February 2020 Evloev was riding his motorcycle in Russia when a car crashed into him and caused major cuts and road rash. The injuries only held Movsar out until July, where he won his only fight of the year on Fight Island, after three canceled bouts. He’s set for a big 2021 if he can beat UFC veteran Nik Lentz (30-11-2) back on Fight Island at UFC 257. The squabble goes down January 23 on the prelims starting at 6:15 PM ET.
