This Iceland volcano eruption is a live feed from the eruption at the Geldingadalir volcano located in Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The glow and occasional lava fountains from the volcano can be seen from the outskirts of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital, just 32km (20 miles) north of the eruption. The ever-growing lava fields has been officially named Fagradalshraun by the Icelanders of the nearby town Grindavík. AfarTV has been streaming this eruption since it started in late March 2021.

After being dormant for almost 6,000 years, the eruption of the Geldingadalir volcano started on March 19, 2021 with two fissures nicknamed "Bob" by the internet community. It is the first active volcano in the area in about 800 years. A second fissure nicknamed "Flo" opened on April 5th near the initial eruption site followed by four more fissures: Sif (April 7th), Ulf (April 10th), & on April 13 Hel, Rag, and Nar opened up. All fissures aside from Nar have stopped erupting.

Nar has grown considerably in size and discharge rate and is now dominating the volcanic landscape with periodic geyser-like eruptions dazzling onlookers with lava fountains. Some of these lava fountains have reached over 300meters (1000ft) in height!

Attempts by civil engineers to redirect the lava flow away from a vital highway including internet and powerline services by building massive earth dams have failed. Lava has breached these dams and is now flowing unabated into the Nathalgi Valley and toward the highway and ocean only 2km away.

The sound is not live but was recorded from the eruption site earlier on.

Wind and temperature data is from Grindavík which is about 10km to the southwest. Wind direction and speed may not match those at the eruption site.
