(19 Sep 2012) President George H.W. Bush and Soviet Union leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev huddled at this presidential retreat for a relaxed round of summit talks as top U.S. and Soviet officials expressed confidence in concluding a European conventional arms treaty by year's end. Secretary of State James A. Baker III and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze arrived ahead of the two superpower leaders and indicated that prospects for an accord to reduce conventional forces in Europe had improved.
