Score Relief 2021 - Spring #scorerelief2021 Music by Simon Tong

My submission for #scorerelief2021 at the 11th hour!!

This is my first attempt at scoring for film and my first attempt at composing within Logic using a sample library (BBC Symphony Orchestra by Spitfire). I had so much fun composing instead of playing, but given more time I would have recorded some of the trumpet lines myself.

My score opens with strings and woodwind to represent nature. This gives way to a trumpet theme to signify the tree creatures. Low brass represents danger during the chase sequence. When the crystal is restored, the low brass (tuba) plays the trees theme from earlier to show that things have returned to normal. The score closes with the same theme being played on clarinet and trumpet over the same string textures as the opening to try and show that the tree creatures are now back to normal and doing what they naturally should be doing in spring.

Maybe I have overthought the roles for instruments and the melody, but as this is my first attempt I wanted to experiment with what I could achieve instead of scaling back to what is necessary.
