Moving to Corvallis Video Series, Part 4: The 4 Quadrants of Corvallis (Oregon)

So you’re thinking of buying or renting a home and moving to Corvallis, Oregon, but you’re not sure which general area is right for you. Well, in this video I’m going to break down the overall 4 Quadrants of Corvallis before we do a much more granular individual neighborhood tour coming soon.

I love the vibrancy and energy of this city and each of the 4 sub-areas we’re about to explore offer something different for you.

We’re kicking things off in NW Corvallis, first. Northwest Corvallis has some older, more established neighborhoods, and parts of it are nestled into the Northwest Hills. Neighborhoods like College Hill, Witham Hill, Timberhill, and Lewisburg are all in Northwest Corvallis. There are lots of parks, some really sought after public elementary schools, and lots of big, beautiful trees. Northwest features many professional offices, the hospital, and some shopping. Northwest Corvallis is also where you’ll find Timberhill Athletic Center, Osbourne Aquatic Center, and 9th Street, which is lined with restaurants, retail, and more.

From there we’ll move on to discuss Southwest Corvallis. Southwest features the Corvallis Country Club, the Country Club neighborhoods, the Stoneybrook Village retirement community, some newer neighborhoods like Barley Hill, Grand Oaks, and brand new construction from Legend Homes such as Russell Gardens. Southwest also features some really sought after public elementary schools, and let’s not forget, the Oregon State University campus.

We’ll take a jaunt up to Northeast Corvallis next, and you’ll notice that Northeast is a much smaller section of town and that we’re now on the other side of 99 West. The Northeast section of town features some apartments, townhome living, some great starter-type homes and mid-size homes, the middle school I used to teach science at, Village Green Park, and some professional campuses. Northeast Corvallis is home to Pepsi, Hewlett-Packard, and Nuscale Power’s offices. Northeast also has a lovely spot to go for a walk on a boardwalk called the Jackson-Frazier wetlands. It’s so pretty there that it was on the list of places when I planned on proposing to my wife. Spoiler alert, she said “yes”… Sold!
Thankfully….

Ok, we touched on Northwest, Southwest, and then Northeast Corvallis, let’s finish our quick overview with a jaunt to Southeast Corvallis, or, as it’s called, Southtown.

To get from Northeast Corvallis to Southtown, we go right down 99 West or right down 9th street, we go through downtown, and then over the bridge and poof, we’re in Southtown. Southtown has a mix of a number of different things. As we go South from downtown we are on 99 West, and there is commercial zoning. We’ll find Crystal Lake Indoor Sports Park, veterinary care, coffee shops, yoga studios and crossfit, a seafood market, and much more. Lincoln Elementary school is also in Southtown, and is one of two bilingual schools here in Corvallis. The housing in Southtown Corvallis is diverse. You’ve got some neighborhoods with some older and smaller starter homes, some neighborhoods with homes from the 90’s like Rivergreen Estates, and some fairly new construction from Legend Homes in the Willamette Landing development. Southtown is also home to Willamette Park, a large public green space with an 18 hole disc golf course, a paved path by the river that connects in with downtown, picnic and BBQ shelters, soccer fields, and a playground. You’ve got really easy access to downtown if you want to walk, bike, or drive from Southtown.

Alright, well that was a whirlwind overview of the four quadrants of Corvallis. There is a ton of information that I completely left out about a lot of really great individual neighborhoods. We’re working on a much longer, detailed tour of neighborhoods, and once that project is completed and published we’ll be sure to include a link the description, below, and maybe even put a link to the video on the screen right about now if at all possible.
