SAFE-MIT Kenya Rollout | Principals’ Views on Migration Education in Schools

As the SAFE-MIT (Safe Migration Information and Training) project continues its rollout across schools in Kiambu, Nairobi, and Kajiado counties, we are seeing real impact where it matters most, in the classroom.

In this video, school principals share their insights and experiences following the SAFE-MIT in-school sessions. They highlight the importance of equipping students with accurate information on the risks of irregular migration and human trafficking, while also guiding them toward safe and legal migration pathways.

The principals also offer valuable recommendations to the European Union and The Youth Café, calling for the expansion of the programme to reach more schools and young people across Kenya.

Following approvals from the Ministry of Education, Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), SAFE-MIT is now being implemented directly in schools through the collaboration of Education Outreach Officers and trained teachers.

SAFE-MIT is funded by the European Union, contracted by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) through the MMD Grant Facility, and implemented by Seefar Foundation in partnership with The Youth Café (TYC) in Kenya.

Together, we are strengthening informed decision-making and building safer futures for young people.
