A visit to Charlotte Amalie on the island of St Thomas, the capital of the US Virgin Islands and a popular port of call for Caribbean cruise ships 🚢

The US Virgin Islands are an American territory and Charlotte Amalie is the busiest port in the country. It's also the biggest city in the Virgin Islands.

Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands was a port of call on our Caribbean cruise aboard the Oasis of the Seas. Lots of cruise lines other than @RoyalCaribbean stop in the US Virgin Islands.

Most ships stop at Crown Bay. It's about 20 minute walk to the centre of the city or about $5 in a cab. We enjoyed the walk along the waterfront and it was a great way to see the city.

Because the US Virgin Islands is a territory of the United States, it uses US dollars. English is the main language

We walked from the cruise port to the Island View Skyride to Paradise Point. We spent some time at the Paradise Point Lookout taking in the great view of Charlotte Amalie. The Skyride was fun and something a little different to do that we've not seen in other Caribbean ports.

We also visited Fort Christian which was built by the Danish when they owned the islands as the Danish West Indies. Denmark isn't as well known for it's colonialism as some of the other European countries so it was interesting to find out a bit about that.

We really enjoyed our visit to Charlotte Amalie, US Virgin Islands and our walk around the city. The Skyride to Paradise Point was particularly enjoyable. We're definitely looking forward to returning some day. ⚓️
