VFA 2023 CATALOG

VFA….our 22 nd video introduces our new 200-page catalogue
titled “Abstract Addictions: Stairway to Heaven”. Our catalogue is our signature
statement that no other gallery comes close to producing. It shows our vast
inventories of Post War art along with our vision revealing itself. The most
important tenet is the quality of each work we acquire as we own everything we
offer…….Abstract Expressionism, women artists from the Post War, the Color
Field painters and works from the American Abstract Artist Group among other
notable masters such as Alexander Calder, Milton Avery and Helen Frankenthaler
are some of the movements and artists we focus on.
We recently acquired the estate of Jane Piper who was one of Arthur B. Carles
students with works from the late 1940’s till the 1980’s. Her close friendship with
Carles’ daughter, Mercedes Matter, said this about Piper:
“My sense of empathy with Jane’s paintings stems from the fact that we both
work predominately from “Still Life”and both have been influenced by Cezanne,
Matisse and Arthur B. Carles, her teacher and my father.” Piper’s palate and her
usage of white as negative space along with a historical cubist style is unique
among the women from the Post War period. Piper is most certainly an artist to
be revisited.
We have also recently published a 100-page catalogue titled “Paul Burlin:
Transformation of Spirit to Pigment: Harmony and Chaos” celebrating Burlin’s
mature work from 1950 – 1969, not only his most prolific and productive period
but arguably his most poetic including many canvases from the Whitney Museum
of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art exhibitions. This is the first time
in decades to acquire works from the family’s estate.
Recently, we dipped into our archive and are offering 20 fresh to the market,
Vivian Springford paintings. Springford’s stain paintngs are expansive and blossom
while radiating into a translucent etherealness. In the past few years her work has
been widely sought after and considered one of the few early women “Color
field” painters from the Post War period much like Helen Frankenthaler. Two
years ago, ArtNet listed Springford to be one of the top seven artist to be aware
of.

We will continue to email our digital on-line catalogues focusing on individual
artists and a variety of subjects along with our “Recent Acquisitions” updates on a
regular basis. Our goal is to produce something uniquely our own showing how
art has been part of our lifestyle over the past fifty years and how our taste is ever
evolving as our curiosity continues to drive us to places unknown.
Once again, we have put our heart and soul into what we believe to be a
complete statement for you to appreciate. Hopefully our passion and enthusiasm
will fuel your quest to absorb new ideas as the mystery of art unfolds around you.
I continue to believe that the future is all about the past.
Thank you for watching and stay tuned as there is more to come.
