Poppy & Dr. Galit - 9th April, 2020.

Poppy the koala was born here at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia, in June 2019. 🐨

Her mum, Rusa, is a slightly older koala and hasn't been producing quite enough milk for her little one, so the team at Lone Pine have been helping out by giving Poppy regular supplemental milk feeds until she is ready to be fully weaned (usually at around 12 months of age).

Giving supplemental feeds can he a helpful intervention if a joey isn't receiving enough milk from mum, or is a bit slow to put on weight. Some koalas prefer to have this milk from a bottle 🍼, but we have found that Poppy prefers hers from a syringe (which she has a habit of trying to grab, so cheeky! 😆).

Poppy is a little koala with a big personality!
