Yantarny (or Amber) is located on the Baltic Sea in Russia's westernmost Kaliningrad Region. The town, which dates back to the 13th century, used to be part of Germany's East Prussia and was called Palmnicken. After WWII, it was included in the northern part of East Prussia passed to the Soviet Union under the Potsdam Agreement. It is now the center of Russia's amber production. Nowadays, more than 90% of the world's amber comes from the Kaliningrad Region.
