Bridge crossings can be made by tour bus, taxi, ride-sharing services, and public transit. Golden Gate TransitOpens in new window buses and San Francisco Muni buses stop at the San Francisco toll plaza, where visitors can get off to walk or cycle the bridge, toll-free. Walkers and bicyclists share the east sidewalk overlooking San Francisco Bay and bicyclists also use the west sidewalk on the ocean side.

During the part of the year with daylight savings time, the bridge walk is open to pedestrians between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. The remainder of the year the bridge walk is open from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Pedestrians, including wheelchair users and cyclists, can travel the sidewalks of the bridge during daylight hours. Rollerblades, skateboards, roller skates, and electronic scooters are not permitted.

There are vista points on both the north and south sides of the bridge. Both vista points have parking lots. These lots have limited space and are closed to vehicles on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
