Election Commission News: EC To Announce Pan-India SIR Dates, 10-15 States Likely In 1st Phase

EC will announce the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) or electoral rolls in several states on October 27. The briefing will be held at 4.15 pm and is likely to be headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. EC is expected to unveil the first phase of SIR, covering 10 to 15 states, including those scheduled for Assembly elections in 2026. Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry are among the states set to go to polls next year. EC has already held two conferences with state chief electoral officers to finalize the SIR rollout plan. Bihar, which recently completed its SIR update, has released the final roll featuring nearly 7.42 crore names.
