Indian Stock Market Close | Nifty, Bank Nifty & Sectoral Wrap
Good evening.
In today's market close, sector performance showed notable declines in several indices. The Nifty Oil & Gas, Nifty Energy, and Nifty Infra indices each fell by 4 to 5 percent over the week. Additionally, the Nifty Metal, Realty, Media, and Auto indices faced pressure, each slipping more than 2 percent. On a positive note, the Nifty Defence index saw a gain of 1.3 percent, while the Nifty Consumer Durables index rose by 1 percent.
Foreign Institutional Investors, or FIIs, remained net sellers this week, offloading equities worth Rs 9,209.90 crore. Conversely, Domestic Institutional Investors, or DIIs, provided some market support, purchasing equities valued at Rs 17,594.58 crore.
In currency news, the Indian rupee experienced range-bound trading throughout the week, fluctuating between 89.73 and 90.29. It ended nearly flat at 90.16 per dollar on January 9, compared to a closing rate of 90.19 on January 2.
