1. Republic of Malta is an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea and an island country in the European Union, UNESCO.
2. Lies close to Sicily (Italy), Tunisia and Libya.
3. Official languages are Maltese & English and 66% Italian language.
4. Population is 516K. Area: Malta 246 km², Gozo 67 km², Comino 3,5 km².
5. Religion: 90% Christianity.
6. On 23 March 1530, Charles V gave the islands to the Knights Hospitaller.
7. The Knights Hospitaller ruled Malta and Gozo between 1530 and 1798.
8. Malta remains a proud member of the Commonwealth.
9. Malta is member of the European Union since 1 May 2014.
10. The EURO is the official currency since 1 January 2008.
