The Crunchy Decade: A look at the challenges for the next ten years in the energy transition
Energy Futures Lab is delighted to announce that Emma Pinchbeck, Chief Executive of Energy UK, will deliver this year’s Dennis Anderson Lecture, the institute’s flagship energy policy lecture. Emma is an expert in whole-economy decarbonisation, and in this lecture she will explore some of the challenges that lie ahead as the energy transition progresses over the coming decade. Before joining Energy UK – the UK’s largest and most diverse energy trade association – in July 2020, Emma served for four years as Deputy CEO of the trade body Renewable UK and sat on the board of Scottish Renewables. She was previously Head of Climate Change at WWF-UK. Emma has two children and shares childcare with her husband. She is passionate about efforts to improve diversity in the energy industry.

This Lecture is held in commemoration of the huge contribution to the energy-environment debate provided by the late Professor Dennis Anderson, who established the Imperial Centre for Energy Policy and Technology in 1998. Dennis combined engineering and economics, having worked as Chief Economist at Royal Dutch Shell and Senior Advisor at the World Bank where he played a major role in helping the Bank recognise the importance and value of the Environment. Shortly before his death in 2008, Dennis acted as Executive Advisor to the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change.

The event will include a Q&A hosted by Professor Rob Gross, Professor of Energy Policy and Technology at Imperial and Director of the UK Energy Research Centre, an independent research centre with researchers based in 20 different institutions throughout the UK including Imperial College London.
