Grandma Crashes Mercedes into Bagel Shop

12.16.19 | by Adam Balhetchet | MIDLAND BEACH, Staten Island - An SUV crashed into a Deli. It happened around 7 am Monday morning at "Not Just Bagels" located at 1910 Hylan Blvd. According to a worker we spoke to, the elderly driver may have thought she was in reverse when he hit the gas, causing the SUV to crash into the building. He also stated that he was in the kitchen preparing food when it happened and that he was lucky to be alive. NYPD ESU was canceled for this incident and FDNY Rescue pulled the SUV out of the building. The elderly driver was seen able to walk around on the scene, get her belongings from her vehicle, and appeared conscious and alert. FDNY Rescue 5 worked to construct a wooden frame to support the building to prevent collapse. The department of buildings was requested to the scene to access the building for structural stability.
