How to Sew a Zipper Pouch | Sewing a Coin Purse with Zipper | Beginner Sewing Projects

How to sew a basic zipper pouch.

This pouch finishes at about 3” tall by 4.5” wide. It’s the perfect size for a debit cards, gift cards, loose change, chapstick, etc. There’s so many possibilities!

Supplies you’ll need:

2 pieces exterior cotton cut to 3.5” tall by 5” wide
2 pieces lining cotton cut to 3.5” tall by 5” wide
2 pieces of light to mid weight interfacing cut to 3.5” tall by 5” wide
1 6” zipper (bigger is fine too, but not smaller)

The thicker the interfacing used, the thicker/sturdier your zipper pouch will be. I’m this video I used Pellon 931TD which is rather thin so the zipper pouch is more slouchy, but I’ve also used Pellon 809 which gives you a sturdier, more rigid pouch.

*sorry I couldn’t track down a video explain why you don’t topstitch your lining down, but trust me, it gives your pouch better looking corners at the zipper and it just looks nicer in the end! 😄
