A security box is very useful to protect a camera trap: An elephant, not content with having taken it out on the annex battery of a trap camera, defies the camera itself with a certain "pleasure".
These cameras are energy-hungry, especially when filming at night under infrared light. To make up for the rapidly draining batteries, they are connected to external batteries similar to those found on motorcycles.
While these digital cameras are inaudible to humans, this is not the case for the elephant. They, like external batteries, seem to emit infrasounds especially when recording. If not, how can we explain that elephants, reputed to have poor eyesight, spot them in broad daylight, even in camouflaged clothing placed against the trunk of a tree! At night, elephants generally do not pay attention to the infrared rays emitted by these devices. Fortunately, there are very few elephants that are aggressive towards batteries and cameras. As a precaution, they are inserted in steel protective boxes. Hence the metallic noise of the defensive blows on this box.

Un éléphant, non content de s'être défoulé sur la batterie annexe d'une caméra piège, défie la caméra elle-même avec un certain "plaisir".
Ces appareils sont gourmands en énergie surtout lorsqu'ils filment la nuit sous infrarouges. Pour suppléer aux piles qui se vident rapidement, ils sont branchés à des batteries externes du genre de celles des motos.
Si ces caméras numériques sont inaudibles pour l'humain mais cela n'est pas le cas pour l'éléphant. Elles, tout comme les batteries externes, semblent émettre des infra-sons surtout lors des enregistrements. Si non comment expliquer que les éléphants, réputés à mauvaise vue, les repèrent en plein jour, même en tenue camouflée plaquée contre le tronc d'un arbre ! La nuit, en général, les éléphants ne prêtent pas attention aux infrarouges émis par ces appareils. Heureusement rares sont ceux faisant preuve d'agressivité à l'égard de batteries et de caméras. Par prudence elles sont insérées dans des boitiers de protection en acier. D'où le bruit métallique des coups de défense sur ce caisson.
