Equipotential Surfaces in a Uniform Electric Field

In this lesson, Mr. P and the class explore equipotential surfaces in a uniform electric field. Key concepts include the definition of an equipotential surface, why electric field lines are always perpendicular to equipotential surfaces, how electric potential decreases in the direction of the electric field, and why it takes zero work to move a charge at a constant speed along an equipotential surface. A gravitational analogy helps clarify the concepts, and the important distinction between constant speed and constant velocity is explored for both uniform and nonuniform electric fields.
