Katla Netflix Series - Filming Locations in Iceland

Locations in Iceland used for filming the Netflix series Katla. A mysterious series about the catastrophic eruption of subglacial volcano Katla that turns a nearby community’s world upside down as mysteries begin to emerge from the ice.

The locations:
00:00 - Church of Vík (Víkurkirkja í Mýrdal), built in 1934.
00:16 - Brydebúð, originally built in Vestmannaeyjar islands in 1831. Later transported and reassembled in Vík in 1895, where is served as a store. The oldest house in Vík and of significant historical importance, now it is a restaurant. It also houses the Katla center of culture, knowledge and tourism in Vík.
00:30 - A few of the oldest houses in Vík. The yellow house is Lækjarmót, built in 1902. Behind it is Sigurðarstaðir, built in 1906 and the green house is Einarsstaðir, built in 1904.
00:43 - Amphibious boat.
00:57 - Halldór's store (Halldórsbúð) built in 1903. The remains of an aeroplane are seen beside the house but I'm unfamiliar with the type.
01:11 - Víkurfjara, the beach of Vík. Far away we see Reynisdrangar, rock formations.
01:26 - Looking over Vík í Mýrdal.
01:40 - Reynisdrangar rock formations.
01:54 - Old barracks on top of Reynisfjall mountain.
02:08 - Ural 4320 russian army truck.

02:39 - Viewing Reynisdrangar from Reynisfjara beach.
03:06 - Sólheimajökull glacier. A part of the largar Mýrdalsjökull glacier that covers Katla volcano.
03:18 - DC-3 plane wreck. In november 1973 a US Navy Douglas R4D-8 (Super DC-3) ran out of fuel and crashed on the black sands
of Sólheimasandur in Iceland.

Katla is the first Icelandic television series produced by Netflix in collaboration with Reykjavík Studios. Containing ten episodes, the series was written by Baltasar along with Sigurjón Kjartansson, Davíð Már Stefánsson and Lilja Sigurðardóttir. Lilja and Baltasar also directed the series alongside Börkur Sigþórsson.
