Prayer Reflection: #38

Prayer Reflection #38

The Attributes of God

You, O God, are wise in heart and mighty in strength.Who has resisted You without harm? (Job 9:4) Your eyes, O Lord, are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)

Pause to reflect on these affirmations about the person, powers and perfection of God.

The Works of God

O Christ, You have appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by sacrificing Yourself. And as it is appointed for people to die once and after that to face judgment, so You were offered once to bear the sins of many; and You will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly wait for You. (Hebrews 9:26–28) I have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, Your city, O living God. I have come to myriad angels, and to the assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven. I have come to You, the Judge of all people, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of better things than the blood of Abel. (Hebrews 12:22–24)

Take a moment to consider the greatness of God’s wonderful works.

My Relationship to God

I want to follow Abraham’s example of willingness and offer all that I have to You, holding nothing back and trusting in Your character and in Your promises. (Genesis 22:2-11) Like Josiah, I want a tender and responsive heart, so that I will humble myself before You when I hear Your word. (2 Chronicles 34:27)

Pause to thank God for the relationship that you enjoy with Him in Jesus Christ.

The Character I Want to Cultivate

I will not lay up for myself treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But I will lay up for myself treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where my treasure is, there my heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19–21; Luke 12:34) I do not want to lay up treasure for myself without being rich toward You, O God. (Luke 12:21)

Take a moment to ask the Lord for the grace to grow in godly character.

My Relationship to Others
The people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of light. I would be wise to use worldly wealth to help others, making friends for myself, so that when it is gone, they may welcome me into Your eternal dwellings. (Luke 16:8–9) What is my hope or joy or crown of rejoicing in Your presence, Lord Jesus, at Your coming? My glory and joy is the people in whose lives I have been privileged to have a ministry. (1 Thessalonians 2:19–20)

Pause to review your relationships with others and to commit them to the Lord.
