Uses of Lenses in Optical Devices - The Camera and Magnifying Glass
A convex lens is used in both a camera and a magnifying glass. This physics tutorial explains how the image is formed for both uses.
In the case of a camera, the convex lens refracts the light to form a REAL image on the camera film or charged coupled device (an electronic version of a film)
For a magnifying glass, a convex is also used, but the image formed is VIRTUAL because it cannot be projected - the image is an illusion. In this situation, the object is closer to the lens than the principle focus of the lens.
This physics tutorial explains how the image is formed in both cases.
