In this DIY tutorial Courtney and Brent from Gray House Studio are going to show you how to transform embossed hardboard paneling into a realistic brick wall by painting it with a new color palette like they did for the accent wall in their home gym.

We used the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap App to translate the colors in our inspiration photo into the paint colors we would use to paint our brick wall.

We started painting with the two mid tone colors i our color palette and poured the paint out on a large piece of cardboard. The cardboard allowed for plenty of space to roll the paint together and let it mix naturally. We like the authentic texture the foam roller give as the paint is rolled across the surface.

Next with the panel completely covered with the mid tones paint, we moved on to the accent colors. These are the colors that stand out in the color palette like the bright yellow and the dark gray. Be sure to concentrate the accent colors and not cover the entire panel.

Finally, it i time for the highlights. The highlights can be added like all the other paint but if it becomes too overwhelming you can always go back and grab some of the other colors from the previous steps.

After the paint dried, we came back with a neutral gray color and painted in the mortar. We did this step last so we could cover all the stray paint from the roller that had gotten in these areas.

We taped the top section off so we could show you the difference between what the embossed hardboard paneling looked like before and what it looks like now that we painted it with a new color palette.

If you are going for a traditional brick look, then you are done. Otherwise, you can whitewash certain areas to give it an industrial worn look like we did on the accent wall in our home gym.

We hope the painting a faux brick wall tutorial inspires you to get creative and paint your own brick wall.
