PATRIK SCHUMACHER : only markets and discourses, in conversation with Marko Milovanovic

PATRIK SCHUMACHER is an architect and architectural theorist who is the principle of ZHA Architects in London. He joined Zaha Hadid in 1988. Schumacher studied Philosophy and Mathematics at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn in the early 1980s. In the mid-eighties he studied architecture in Stuttgart and in 1987 continued his studies at London Southbank University. In 1988 – still a student – he worked in the design studio of Zaha Hadid, on the design of the Vitra Firestation, the first built project of Hadid. In 1990 he returned to University of Stuttgart to complete his Diploma in Architecture and then re-joined Hadid. In 1999 he completed a PhD at the Institute of Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University. In 1996, with Brett Steele, Patrik founded Design Research Laboratory (DRL) at the Architectural Association where he still teaches.

FREE SCHOOL OF is a reflective, free-source educational platform celebrating conversation over any other form of knowledge. With the aim to challenge dogmas and explore contradictions, FSO is inconclusive and uncertain. At the heart of this school lies the curiosity about creative processes, boundaries between creative disciplines, and how established hierarchies between emerging and established voices can transform into platforms for learning.

MARKO MILOVANOVIC is an architect, filmmaker, journalist, and a committed educator. He is the founder of the knowledge and space production practice MYLOMARK and the educational conversational platform FREE SCHOOL OF.
