Weather In Cuenca Ecuador + Best Time to Visit & What Clothes to Bring (2020)

Amelia and JP VLOG 180: We get LOTS of questions about the weather in Cuenca Ecuador, as well as the best time to visit Cuenca and what types of clothes to bring to Cuenca. Hopefully this video will help answer some of those questions.

We think the best time to visit in terms of weather is during the summer months from December through March. However, the weather during the past year has been very unusual so it's hard to say when the best weather will be. We hope it returns to normal, but this may be the new normal as weather appears to be changing everywhere.

If you like crowds and lots of festive activities, the first week of November during Cuenca Days, the week between Christmas and New Years, and Carnival in late February/early March are the best times to come. If you prefer fewer people and cheaper lodging, you might want to avoid those times.

If you're planning an exploratory trip to see if you would enjoy living in Cuenca, you might want to visit during the winter months from June through August to see if you can handle the Seattle-type weather when it's cool and cloudy most of the time.

When you're packing for your visit, you'll want to bring clothes that you can layer. The temperature can range widely throughout the day, from low 40s when you wake up to low 80s by mid-afternoon when the sun is out. I can also vary widely within the span of an hour, going from sunny and warm to cool and rainy so you always want an umbrella, rain jacket, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and a small backpack to carry everything. Bring comfortable walking shoes because it's a very walkable city.
