Exhibition 'Flames in silence' with paintings by Pau Nubiola

'Flames in Silence' is an exhibition of paintings portraying the 158 Tibetan self-immolators since 2009 in Tibet.

The purpose of this eshibition is to give visibility to this human tragedy, to amplify the genuine demands of those immolated and to help generate a constructive debate around these sad events with the motivation of trying to stop them.

The paintings are based on portraits, when photos are available. Some cases are from the moment of immolation by fire. In others, if there is no reference photo, the artist paints a symbolic flame.

These portraits are intended as a tribute to the memory of these people who have sacrificed their lives in protest of China's repression of the Tibetan people with the clear purpose of erasing their identity.
